Warning signs

Here's what to look for.

Catch any of these early and you'll save thousands. Ignore them and the problem compounds, fast.

Visible pressure pushing against exterior walls
Gaps forming between walls and floors
Sticking doors or windows due to shifting foundations
Water seepage through cracked walls
Bulging or inward-leaning basement walls
Horizontal cracks running along your basement walls
Root causes

Why this is happening.

Understanding the cause is half the repair. Symptoms come back when root causes aren't addressed.

01

Tree Roots

Tree roots pushing against exterior foundation walls.

02

Soil Shifting

Settling or shifting foundations over time.

03

Poor Construction

Inadequate construction or weak materials in wall design.

04

Frost Heaving

Frost heaving during freezing temperatures creates upward pressure.

05

Hydrostatic Pressure

Water pressure buildup behind walls due to accumulation.

06

Soil Pressure

Excessive soil pressure from poor drainage or expansive soil.

Our methods

How we fix it, right.

We match the method to the damage, not the other way around. No one-size-fits-all.

Method 01

Helical Tieback Systems

Stabilize and straighten severely bowing walls with deep-driven helical anchors.

Method 02

Carbon Fiber Reinforcement

Strengthen walls and prevent further bowing with high-strength carbon fiber straps.

Method 03

Wall Anchors

Secure bowing walls by anchoring them to stronger soils outside the foundation.

Method 04

Soil Stabilization

Reinforce the soil surrounding your foundation to reduce pressure and prevent future bowing.

Method 05

Waterproofing Solutions

Address underlying water pressure issues that contribute to wall movement.

Materials we install

Manufacturer-grade. Brand-named.

We don't use hardware-store filler. Every product below is sourced from manufacturers that don't sell to DIYers, and we're trained directly with most of them.

Fortress carbon fiber strap system

Fortress Stabilization Systems

Manufacturer-engineered FRP straps bonded with structural epoxy. Spec'd to actual wall load — straps are sized and spaced based on the bow severity and wall geometry, not a one-size template.

Stabl Wall structural strengthening system

Stabl Wall (certified installers since 2018)

Engineered system for severe bows. Anchors into the footing and the sill plate; carries the manufacturer's structural rating.

Structural epoxy bonding resin

Sika / Prime Resins

High-modulus epoxy that bonds carbon fiber to the wall as a continuous structural element. Cure-tested and rated to manufacturer specs.

Helical wall anchors (when applicable)

For exterior tieback installations on severely bowed walls where the lot allows. Threaded steel rod anchored into stable soil 8–14 ft away from the wall, then tensioned.

Polyurethane injection (if leaking)

Sika / Emecole

When a bowing wall is also leaking, we seal active cracks before applying carbon fiber so the substrate is dry and bond-ready.

Project timeline

From your call to the warranty document.

Honest day-by-day expectations. No mystery scheduling, no "we'll be there next week" that turns into next month.

1

Inspection + measurement

Day 0 (within 48h)

Free on-site visit. Laser-level reading on the wall plumb, deflection measurement at multiple heights, and load-path analysis. We document with numbers — not guesswork.

2

Engineering review (if structural)

Day 0–7

For severe bows or anything that needs Stabl Wall, we coordinate with structural engineering review and CT/NY permits where required.

3

Installation

1–3 days

Wall surface prep, carbon fiber strap epoxy bonding to spec, top-and-bottom anchoring into footer and sill. Stabl Wall hardware where engineering calls for it. Containment sheeting protects finishes.

4

Walkthrough + warranty

Final day

Raf re-measures the wall, walks you through the repair, and hands off the lifetime transferable warranty document — full-wall carbon fiber on a structural bow qualifies.

What drives your price

Three factors do the heavy lifting.

Factor 1

Severity of bow

A 1-inch deflection over 8 ft of wall is treated very differently from a 3-inch active bow with horizontal cracking. Severity drives reinforcement count and whether Stabl Wall is needed in addition to carbon fiber.

Factor 2

Wall type

Concrete-block walls almost always need full-wall reinforcement (the joints are the weak axis). Poured-concrete walls can sometimes use spaced straps if the bow is mild and isolated.

Factor 3

Whether the wall is also leaking

An actively leaking bowing wall needs polyurethane injection on top of structural reinforcement and often interior drainage. Dry walls need only the structural fix.

Our rule

We don't patch. We fix permanently.

Every structural repair restores the section with a stronger, more sustainable material than what originally failed. If a crack is identified as structural, the only honest fix is to rebuild that section with a superior material, since the original already failed once. That's not an upsell, it's the rule that keeps a lifetime warranty real.

Common questions

Bowing Wall Repair, answered.

The questions homeowners actually ask us when bowing wall repair comes up at the inspection.

How much does bowing wall repair cost in CT and NY?

Typical full-wall carbon fiber reinforcement runs $7,500–$12,000 for a residential basement wall. Severe bows that need Stabl Wall structural strengthening or exterior tiebacks can run up to $20,000+. Mild bows (under 1" deflection on a poured-concrete wall) sometimes only need spaced straps in the $4,000–$6,000 range. Honest scoping comes from on-site measurement, not phone quotes.

Is my bowing wall an emergency?

If the bow exceeds ~2 inches of deflection, has active horizontal cracking, or is visibly progressing month over month, treat it as urgent. Walls don't fail on a predictable timeline once they cross those thresholds. Mild stable bows (under 1 inch, no cracking) can be planned around your schedule. We'll classify yours during the free inspection.

Can I repair a bowing wall from inside, or does it need exterior excavation?

Most CT and NY bowing walls are repaired from the interior with full-wall carbon fiber reinforcement — far less invasive than digging out the exterior. Exterior excavation + helical tiebacks is reserved for severely bowed walls (3+ inches) or cases where the lot allows the work and the bow is being actively driven by saturated exterior backfill.

Will the carbon fiber show in my basement?

The straps lay flush against the wall (about ⅛ inch thick). Once cured, you can paint over them or finish the basement and they disappear behind drywall. Unlike steel I-beam braces (which protrude 4–6 inches into the room), carbon fiber doesn't reduce usable basement space.

How long does the repair take?

Most full-wall carbon fiber installs are 1–2 days on-site. Severe-bow jobs that include Stabl Wall hardware or exterior tiebacks run 2–5 days. From your initial call, we can typically be on-site for the free measurement within 48 hours.

Will the wall straighten back, or just stop moving?

Carbon fiber reinforcement stabilizes the wall in its current geometry — it stops the bow from progressing and prevents new cracking. It doesn't push the wall back to perfectly plumb. If straightening is the goal, that requires exterior excavation and either helical tiebacks tensioned over time or full wall rebuild — much larger scope.

Does this qualify for the lifetime transferable warranty?

Yes. Full-wall carbon fiber reinforcement on a structurally diagnosed bowing wall is exactly the repair geometry the lifetime warranty was written for. If the wall ever moves or the carbon fiber bond fails at the repaired location, we come back at no charge — and the coverage transfers automatically to the next homeowner.

What's the difference between Fortress carbon fiber and Stabl Wall?

Both are manufacturer-engineered systems we're certified to install. Fortress is FRP strap-and-resin bonded to the wall surface — best for most residential bowing walls. Stabl Wall is a structural strengthening system with anchored hardware — used for severe bows where additional load capacity is needed. We pick the system based on the engineering numbers from the inspection, not preference or margin.
